Begoña M. Rueda wins the Granada 2024 Residence in Óbidos for writers and translators

Begoña M. Rueda is the winner of the 2024 edition of the Óbidos Residence for Writers and Translators in Granada. The residency is a joint project between Granada UNESCO City of Literature and Óbidos Villa Literária, conceived to promote the internationalisation of the local cultural ecosystem and the promotion and exchange of authors and knowledge. On a yearly basis since 2018, the Residence in Óbidos for writers and translators from Granada is regarded as one of the main international projects of the Granada UNESCO City of Literature Office.

The residency will take place throughout October 2024 in the Portuguese town of Óbidos, which, like Granada, is a UNESCO Creative City in the field of literature. Begoña M. Rueda will develop her new poetic project, which, in the words of the resident, aims to be “a tribute to local haberdasheries through bondage, cyborg feminism and the reinterpretation of death through maratú and guatiné”. During her stay in Óbidos, Begoña M. Rueda will be invited to participate in the FOLIO international literature festival.

Begoña M. Rueda (Jaén, 1992) lives in Granada and works in the laundry service of the Hospital de Neurotraumatología y Rehabilitación Virgen de las Nieves. Her published poetry books include Error 404 (2020; Ciudad de Burgos Prize), Servicio de lavandería (2021; Hiperión Prize) and Exitus (2024; Antonio Oliver Belmás Prize). He has been part of the XXI promotion of artists of the Fundación Antonio Gala (Córdoba) and of the II Programme of Creative Residencies Los Tientos de la UGR (Granada) and has participated in poetry festivals such as Cosmopoética (Córdoba, 2017 and 2022), Poex (Gijón, 2021) and La dignitat de la Paraula (Elche, 2023), among others.
