“Contante y sonante”. Micro-workshop of Sonnets by Juan Carlos Friebe

We call “Granada is Literature” the set of activities carried out in collaboration between Granada UNESCO City of Literature Office and the Aula de Literatura of the University of Granada. Among these activities is a series of free micro-workshops on writing, which will take place one Friday a month from October 2018 to May 2019 in the Mural Room of La Madraza, Center for Contemporary Culture of the University of Granada, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

A maximum of 15 people can participate in each workshop. Applications are processed on a first-come basis. Those interested in participating must send an email to talleres@granadaciudaddeliteratura.com. The exception is the “Contante y sonante” sonnet workshop, which will take place on Tuesday, December 18. Location: Sala Mural of La Madraza – Centro de Cultura Contemporánea of the University of Granada.

In this express workshop, which is both playful and educational, participants will learn both the mechanics and dynamics of constructing a sonnet, with the challenge of writing one collectively. Following an introductory talk, poetry enthusiasts will become familiar with the peculiarities of poetic composition—rhythm, rhyme, meter, accents, and more—through this classical structure, one of the most beautiful forms of lyrical expression.
