Anna Starobinets

Anna Starobinets (Moscow, 1978) is a journalist, a writer of dystopian and metaphysical works, as well as a film and television scriptwriter. At the age of twenty-seven, she published her first book, An Awkward Age (2005), followed by, among others, The Living (2011), winner of the Utopiales European Prize in 2016, The Icarus Gland (2013), Russia’s National Bestseller Prize, and Look at him (2017), a heartbreaking autobiographical account of her pregnancy with a stillborn baby. Starobinets received the Nocte Prize in 2012 and the European Science Fiction Society Prize in 2018, and is considered the “queen of Russian horror”. She has been living in Tbilisi, Georgia, since spring 2022.
