Ángel Fábregas wins the 2023 edition of the Nanjing Residency for Writers from Granada
Ángel Fábregas has been selected to enjoy the 2023 edition of the Nanjing Residency for Writers from Granada, organised by Granada UNESCO City of Literature and the Centre for the Promotion of Nanjing as a City of Literature. The Residence is the result of the collaboration agreements between the two cities ratified in Granada on 22 September 2023.
In recent years, Ángel Fábregas has embarked on an interesting career as a storyteller, primarily a novelist, and is a leading figure in Granada’s literary ecosystem. His stay in Nanjing will allow him to continue developing his latest literary project, a novel provisionally entitled Río Mundo, which deals with themes such as the falsification of art, the value of artistic work and the social inequalities between the coast and the interior of the coastal regions of eastern Spain, in a context of economic speculation and urban corruption.
The project Residence in Nanjing for Writers from Granada, which had a pilot experience in 2019, is part of the set of joint projects agreed between Granada (Unesco City of Literature since 2014) and Nanjing (Unesco City of Literature since 2019), at a meeting held at the Granada City Hall. Representatives of both cities signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 22 September that sets out the agreements to be implemented in the coming months, in line with the objectives set by the Unesco Creative Cities Network. Nanjing officially presented itself as a Unesco City of Literature to the municipal authorities and designed an exhibition especially for Granada, “Cities as a space for Literary Creativity”, which could be seen in the Patio of the City Hall.
