“Theory and Play of the Duende” by Federico García Lorca translated into German for the first time
On 1 June 2023, one of the most important media in Germany, the Frankfurter Allgemaine Zeitung, FAZ, released an article about the bilingual edition of the essay Theory and Play of the Duende by Federico García Lorca that has recently been published, in a non-commercial edition, by the City of Heidelberg and Wunderhorn Publising House. This wonderful project has been made possible thanks to the work of Andrea Edel and our colleagues from Heidelberg Unesco City of Literature.
The author of the translation is Sabine Giersberg. A great event, we could say, as it is the first time that this fundamental text by Lorca has been translated into German.
On 25 April, Andrea Edel, director of Heidelberg UNESCO City of Literature, delivered several copies of the book to Laura García Lorca and the Archive of the Federico García Lorca, on the occasion of the activities related to the designation of Heidelberg as a Unesco Guest City at the Granada Book Fair.
So mitreißend und glühend ist dieser Essay, dass er mühelos ganze Romanbibliotheken in Asche legen könnte.
So stirring and glowing is this essay that it could easily burn whole libraries of novels to ashes.
